Can I get circumcised at 35?
Hello and welcome dear friends to Dr Shah’s Circumcision clinic.
In this quick blog post, we are going to quickly go over a common topic most adults have in mind. It is the answer to the question ‘Can I get circumcised at 35?’
To bring to light an important piece of information, circumcision can be done literally at any age, starting from as early as 7 to 10 days after birth till about 60 years of age. However, a point to note is that, the value of doing a circumcision procedure falls after 60 years. This is because, sexual activity diminishes by 60, and that too quite significantly.
Furthermore, by the same token, undergoing a circumcision very early immediately after birth may not be strictly required, until or unless there is a strong religious motivation to do it.
So what is the ideal age of doing a circumcision?
The answer is not a straightforward one. Let me elaborate… Circumcision as a procedure can be done ideally after puberty till about 45 years of age. However, from a clinical perspective, I normally recommend circumcision to patients when
- They notice they have a tight foreskin and find retracting it painful
- They find their foreskin thick and infected
- Also when they are unable to penetrate their partners I recommend circumcision.
- Moreover, most men with tight foreskin also suffer from premature ejaculation and glans hypersensitivity. In these instances, I recommend a circumcision
- Circumcision is definitely recommended before marriage particularly when the skin is tight
- Some men suffer from erectile dysfunction, since the skin covering the glans is tight, penetration does not happen and thus erection does not sustain. In these events circumcision is definitely recommended.
- In another very important indication for circumcision is when the man has multiple sexual partners. Since, there is a high risk of sexually transmitted infections a circumcision is a must.
More than anything, the choice of undergoing a circumcision is usually individualized on a patient to patient basis. Moreover, I strongly recommend circumcision to my patients especially before marriage. This avoids a range of problems for both the patient and his partner. Phimosis or a tight foreskin can wreck your sexual relationships. Thus ideally if you are marrying from anywhere in the age of 26 to 30, that is probably the best time to get circumcised.
