How long does it take to heal after circumcised?

Hello my dear friends and loved ones! Dr Shah here!

If you are searching for a circumcision treatment in Chennai and are worried about healing times after a circumcision procedure you have come to the right spot. Read on!

In this short blog we are going to quickly go over ‘how long does it take to heal after circumcised?                                                    Now, most of you would be worried about healing times post a circumcision procedure. It is not uncommon.I would be worried as well. In fact dead worried. More than you perhaps! But, let me tell you something. Something interesting, that 98% of so called ‘experts’ do not ever tell. The healing time after undergoing a circumcision surgery purely depends on the type of technique used to perform the procedure.

Now, the circumcision procedure basically involves removal of the first 2 to 2.5 cm of excess foreskin that covers your penis. It was originally done by the ‘khatna’ method were the skin was bluntly cut. In some cases it was performed by a simple method of surgical circumcision which involves 9 to 10 sutures. In the more common surgical method of circumcision involving sutures or bites the healing times are prolonged. On average about 8 to 12 weeks for complete healing.

However, with the advent of newer technologies like the stapler circumcision, the healing time is just 3 weeks flat! Yes, you heard that right, 3 weeks flat. Now what is important here of course is that the time of healing specified refers to the resumption of sexual activity. So put in simple words, after 21 days or 3 weeks post circumcision surgery you can start sexual activity with your partner.

But with the conventional circumcision, there is a waiting time of 8 weeks almost 2.5 times the stapler method. Moreover, the pain and discomfort during healing is in general more.

The healing of the circumcision wound also depends on a few factors. Some of them are

  1. Your individual health
  2. Presence or absence of other medical conditions like diabetes mellitus
  3. Your sincerity in strictly following the medical advice of the surgeon or doctor with respect to bed rest
  4. Usage of post operative medications and creams

Some quick tips we recommend all our patients to follow after circumcision include

  1. Not to lift weights or travel by motorcycles/autos for the first 10 days post procedure
  2. To strictly adhere to the treatment protocols of prescribed medications
  3. To avoid straining while passing or clearing bowels (eating a fibre rich diet helps here)
  4. To lie down flat on the back and not on the stomach or sides post the surgery
  5. To not sit continuously for more than 1 hour at a stretch post surgery for work related activities, intermittent breaks of 10 minutes is recommended where the patient should lie flat on his back
  6. To strictly ensure sugar control and of course of control of other co-morbid medical conditions.

So that about summates the fact that circumcision healing times depends on the type of procedure performed. At Dr Shahs Circumcision clinic in Chennai we recommend only the stapler method of circumcision because of its faster 3 week healing times and painless nature.
