What helps a circumcision wound heal faster?

Hello my dear friends and loved ones! Dr Shah here!

Searching for a circumcision treatment in Chennai? You have come to the right place.  In this blog post we are going to quickly overview on ‘what helps a circumcision wound heal faster?

The most important thing to bear in mind is that, a circumcision wound is like any other surgical wound. Treating the wound site with care and being cautious helps accelerate the healing process. Normally, the circumcision wound takes about 4 weeks to heal followed by an additional 4 weeks of wound stabilization.

Moreover, most men can return to all normal activities including sexual intercourse after 4 weeks of circumcision. However, the 4 weeks of healing time specifically applies to the method of circumcision employed by the doctor. In conventional circumcision with stitches, the wound healing time can approach close to 8 weeks. However, in the stapler methodology the healing time is just about 4 weeks.

If you underwent the circumcision with a conventional stitch based technique, the following tips can help the wound heal much faster

  1. In the first 24 hours after circumcision please do not allow water to come in contact with the surgical site
  2. Next, for the 1st week post circumcision please ensure you lie down flat on your back. Strictly no sleeping on the sides or on your stomach.
  3. Avoid using 2 wheelers for the first week post the procedure
  4. Avoid cold beverages and ice creams, since there is a risk of developing cough and cold. Frequent cough and cold can ultimately result in increased abdominal pressure and poorer wound healing due to pressure transmission downwards to the wound site
  5. Take a diet rich in fibre strictly for the 1st A high fibre, low fat and low protein diet helps with healing. This is because the chances of straining while clearing bowels in minimized. Reduced intra-abdominal pressure means reduce strain on the surgical site
  6. The next most important point to bear in mind while undergoing a circumcision is to remember to continue taking medications as prescribed by your consultant. Skipping medications is a big NO-NO
  7. Visiting your specialist on time as per the recommendation is a must. This helps your circumcision doctor monitor your overall recovery.
  8. Another important point that most patients tend to forget is that, post procedure sitting immediately for long hours is not recommended. Now most individuals want to get back to work as the earliest. However, taking a bit of rest and intermittently working at 20 minute intervals with a 10 minute gap for lying down flat works very well for wound healing.

That’s it guys! The above mentioned points will definitely help in achieving faster wound healing after circumcision. Keep watching this space for more interesting articles. I hope you enjoyed reading this article.
