Hello my dear friends and loved ones! Dr Shah here!

In this article we are going to quickly go over the topic ‘what is the best medicine for circumcision?                                                   If you are looking for a circumcision treatment in Chennai, you have stumbled on the right page. Moreover, in this short blog post we are going to quickly go over post operative circumcision care for adults in detail.

So, what is the best medicine for circumcision? What medicine should the patient take after undergoing a circumcision surgery?

Here is how things work. Read on!

The medicine for circumcision in cases of conventional circumcision is the SAME as the stapler method of circumcision. In general all patients will require a combination of medications for 7 to 10 days. At Dr Shahs Circumcision clinic we recommend medicines for circumcision for 10 days

At Dr Shahs Circumcision clinic we recommend medicines for circumcision for 10 days.

These medications usually include.

  1. A painkiller and an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen
  2. Trypsin-chymotrypsin enzymes for faster reduction of swelling, pain and redness
  3. A basic antibiotic to prevent infections
  4. A proton pump inhibitor to reduce gastric acidity
  5. Local antibiotic ointment to be applied over the wound to further reduce the chances of post-operative site infections

In general, the advantage of strictly following the medications is that the chances of infections and other complications come down by 98%.

So why worry?                                                                                                                                                                                                A few other recommendations when it comes to post-operative care of the circumcision site include

  1. Avoid water or wetting the dressing over the wound for the first 24 to 48 hours
  2. Strictly do not lift heavy weights, that is the LAST thing you want to do
  3. Avoid travelling on a motorcycle since there is a very real risk of injury. Motorcycle travel to be strictly avoided for the 1st 7 days
  4. Lie down flat on your back and NOT on your stomach, again this is for the 1st 7 days only
  5. Take a fiber rich diet full of fruits and vegetables
  6. If you have cough remember to take the necessary medications required, since cough aggravates intra-abdominal pressure leading to surgical site bleed.
  7. Most importantly, definitely do visit your doctor for follow up care.

At our circumcision hospital in Chennai, the follow up visit for patients are as below

  1. 24 hours – Post Surgery
  2. Day 7 – Post surgery
  3. Day 14 – Post surgery
  4. Day 28 – Post surgery

At each visit to the hospital, we try to help the patient through their recovery goals. These goals aim at to provide the patient with a step wise pathway to full functional normalcy.

Here is how the post-op care progresses

24 hours post surgery – dressing is removed, the circumcision site is examined. The patient can bathe and resume all light activities the next day.

Day 7 post surgery – Again an examination of the site of circumcision is done. Patient can sleep on the sides now. Moderate activities allowed. No sexual intercourse or bike travel is allowed. However, the patient can travel by car anywhere.

Day 14 post surgery – Examination of the circumcision wound is done. Bike travel is allowed if the patient desires. Sitting for long hours in the office will become comfortable by now

Day 28 – Final and last examination of the site of wound. Resumption of sexual activity is allowed. Lifting of weights is also allowed.

In general, patients are usually very comfortable post a circumcision procedure and the quality of life remain excellent
